Melissa Barger's profile

Best of Fall 2016.

World in Motion. Melissa Barger. Digital.
This is piece shows off motion with the blending of colors. It was inspired by sunrises and sunsets and how the colors vary. The focus of the merging of the them both into one another. The sky turned out exactly how I wanted to showcase it.
Stainglass Sunset. Melissa Barger. Marker and Colored Pencil.
I tried to experiment with different grid lines. Grids can be a little rigid looking for me sometimes and I was trying to avoid that. I like the concept and how it does offer gridwork in a different light.
Otherworldly. Melissa Barger. Digital.
This piece is from asymmetry and balance week. The Karine Leger emulate piece. I was really impressed with how this turned out digitally. I tried to keep this "off" a little my circles and what not, but the balance in the numbers and space keeps it cohesive.
Dreaming of Warmer Weather. Melissa Barger. Marker.
Patterns were my favorite week and I really found myself incorporating them into my work from this week on. I tried to keep the colors bold and unrealistic to encourage a dreamlike quality. The patterns are distinct, fun, and bright. My favorite piece this semester.
fran. Melissa Barger. Mixed media.
I had fun creating this piece for transparency and opacity week. Miss Fran spoke to me and chose her granny flowers to show off her personality. It was cut away  to reveal layers in different areas.
The Rabbit Hole. Melissa Barger. Graphite.
Trees are so full of texture and that was my inspiration. This was a quick sketch drawing. Less than 2 minutes. I worked on texturing the paper with my pencil pressure. I like the texture that came from the hold and how it eventually started to strip away.
This collection is what I'm most proud of from this semester. It was a lot more work than  I expected and could get a little daunting to finish two pieces a week that took hours for each one most of the time. For me you could tell where I had the most fun and learned the most. This semester I got to try many new ideas and got to experiment with digital art for the first time ever. Which I surprisingly like even though it is out of my comfort zone.
